Zillow is looking for a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to lead the technical direction of their Agentic Data Platform, focusing on building AI experiences for customers navigating real estate decisions.

Experience:

10+ years building, scaling, and operating large-scale data and ML infrastructure
1 to 2 years shipping agent-based or LLM-powered systems to production
3+ years as a technical leader spanning multiple organizations

Key Skills:

Python
Agentic frameworks (LangGraph, LangChain, Agents SDK, AutoGen)
Large-scale data processing (Spark, Databricks, Airflow, Temporal)
Vector stores
Cloud Infrastructure (AWS preferred)
Distributed systems architecture

Role Focus:

Set technical direction and own multi-quarter architecture roadmap for agentic data foundations
Architect and ship systems handling hundreds of millions of agent interactions
Drive cross-organization execution and lead complex multi-team initiatives
Communicate complex platform trade-offs to various levels
Grow senior technical talent and mentor engineers

Nice to have:

Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field
Experience building data platform for agentic systems or real-time AI applications
Experience working with regulated, private, or sensitive data at scale
Experience designing evaluation, tracing, or safety frameworks for LLM-based production systems

Competitive base salary and equity awards based on experience, performance, and location
Standard base pay ranges: $204,400 - $326,600 (California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC), $194,200 - $310,200 (Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia)
