    Description

    General Motors is seeking a Staff AI/ML Engineer to design and implement AI/ML solutions for autonomous driving and future sensing technologies, focusing on perception and sensor fusion.

    Experience:

    • Strong experience building and scaling AI/ML systems for perception, autonomy, robotics, or related real-world systems
    • Deep hands-on experience with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch
    • Experience working with model training pipelines, large-scale data workflows, and infrastructure
    • Strong experience with model validation, debugging, performance optimization, and error analysis
    • Strong experience with multi-modal sensor fusion and perception pipelines using cameras, radar, lidar, or related sensing modalities
    • Experience defining metrics and evaluation methodologies for perception or autonomy systems
    • Experience deploying or preparing ML models for production environments
    • Technical leadership experience including mentoring engineers and shaping major workstreams

    Qualification:

    • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

    Role Focus:

    • Design and implement AI/ML solutions aligned with autonomous driving and future sensing objectives
    • Lead technical studies on sensor selection, configuration, placement, and multi-modal sensor fusion
    • Architect and evaluate perception models and pipelines for detection, reconstruction, tracking, localization support, semantic labeling, and uncertainty estimation
    • Define robust model-level and system-level metrics for sensor configurations and performance evaluation
    • Lead model development including data curation, training, validation, performance optimization, debugging, and deployment analysis
    • Partner with simulation teams to define synthetic-data and sensor-model requirements
    • Drive system integration across sensing, calibration, compute, software architecture, and vehicle constraints
    • Translate ambiguous architecture questions into experiments, recommendations, and evidence packages
    • Design and build infrastructure, pipelines, and tooling for large-scale data processing and model iteration
    • Drive technical execution from prototyping through integration and production readiness
    • Support and mentor engineers through collaboration and code reviews

    Additional responsibilities:

    • Document learnings and best practices
    • Foster knowledge sharing and engineering excellence

    Nice to have:

    • Experience in robotics or autonomous driving systems
    • Experience architecting perception or sensory systems for automotive, robotics, or safety-critical platforms
    • Experience with system integration across sensors, calibration, compute, and onboard software pipelines
    • Experience with simulation, synthetic data, and sim-to-road evaluation workflows

    Other:

    • Salary range $189,300 to $320,700 with incentive pay based on company and individual performance
