Description

Seeking a Staff AI Engineer to lead design and delivery of AI/ML systems with a focus on architectural decisions and technical leadership.

Role: Staff AI Engineer

Location: CA Remote

Experience:

7+ years professional software engineering experience
4+ years focused on AI/ML systems in production
Deep hands-on experience with generative AI development

Key Skills:

Python or similar programming languages
Cloud platforms including AWS services and AWS GenAI offerings
AI frameworks and orchestration tools
Evaluation frameworks and observability tools for LLM apps
RAG pipelines: chunking strategies, embedding models, vector databases, advanced retrieval techniques
API design and integration with internal and third-party services
Docker and Kubernetes for containerized deployments
AI-forward coding tools such as Claude Code and Cursor

Responsibilities:

Lead design and implementation of complex ML/AI systems end-to-end
Own architecture decisions and drive solutions from research through production at scale
Build and evolve scalable ML platforms, pipelines, and infrastructure
Set standards for AI-forward engineering and help team adopt tools effectively
Partner with product, engineering, and leadership to shape AI strategy
Translate AI tradeoffs, risks, and opportunities into clear narratives for stakeholders
Lead design reviews and technical discussions
Define AI architecture and engineering standards including responsible AI practices
Mentor and grow junior and mid-level engineers
Take ownership of ambiguous and high-stakes work ensuring reliability, cost, and safety

Additional responsibilities:

Raise the bar on engineering rigor and constructive challenge across the team
Drive production-ready AI delivery within
Contribute to technical decisions shaping AI scalability over time

Nice to have:

Advanced cost optimization expertise including token economics, caching strategies, model routing, quantization
Deep understanding of AI safety, prompt injection defenses, and PII handling

Other:

Salary range: $176,612 - $243,680 CAD
Work involves balancing engineering with creativity to build AI systems for real people and workflows
